Job Title: Welder / Fabricator
Job Description

This role involves operating a variety of welding and metal fabrication equipment to fuse, cut, shape, and repair metal components according to detailed drawings, blueprints, and specifications. You will work in a weld shop environment, performing structural welding, fabrication, and finishing tasks to produce high-quality metal structures and parts.

Responsibilities

  • Operate manual and semi-automatic welding equipment to fuse metal segments using processes such as gas tungsten arc welding (GTAW/TIG), gas metal arc welding (GMAW/MIG), flux-cored arc welding (FCAW), plasma arc welding, shielded metal arc welding (SMAW), oxy-acetylene welding, resistance welding, and submerged arc welding.
  • Perform MIG welding on a variety of metal components, ensuring strong, clean, and consistent welds that meet quality and safety standards.
  • Carry out structural welding and fabrication tasks, assembling and joining structural components according to project requirements.
  • Read and interpret drawings, blueprints, and specifications to determine layout requirements, weld sequences, and fabrication processes.
  • Lay out, fit, and position metal components accurately prior to welding, using appropriate tools and techniques for fitting and alignment.
  • Operate manual or semi-automatic flame-cutting equipment to cut metal components to specified dimensions and shapes.
  • Use brazing and soldering equipment to join metal parts where required by the job specifications or process procedures.
  • Operate metal shaping machines such as brakes, shears, and other metal straightening or bending machines to form and adjust metal components.
  • Grind, clean, and finish welds and metal surfaces to achieve the required appearance, tolerances, and structural integrity.
  • Repair worn or damaged parts of metal products by welding on extra layers or replacing sections, restoring components to serviceable condition.
  • Follow established process procedures, safety guidelines, and quality standards throughout all welding and fabrication activities.
  • Regularly report to work on time and prepared to perform all assigned tasks as outlined in the job description or as directed by supervision.
  • Maintain a clean and organized work area, ensuring tools, equipment, and materials are stored and used safely and efficiently.
Essential Skills
  • Proficiency in operating manual and semi-automatic welding equipment, including gas tungsten arc welding (GTAW/TIG), gas metal arc welding (GMAW/MIG), flux-cored arc welding (FCAW), plasma arc welding, shielded metal arc welding (SMAW), oxy-acetylene welding, resistance welding, and submerged arc welding.
  • Demonstrated MIG welding experience, including the ability to produce structurally sound and visually acceptable welds.
  • Ability to perform structural welding and fabrication work on a variety of metal structures and components.
  • Strong blueprint reading skills, including the ability to interpret drawings, blueprints, and specifications to determine layout, weld symbols, and process requirements.
  • Competence in fitting and layout of metal components prior to welding, ensuring correct dimensions, alignment, and tolerances.
  • Experience operating manual or semi-automatic flame-cutting equipment for cutting metal to specified dimensions.
  • Skill in using brazing and soldering equipment to join metal parts when required.
  • Ability to operate metal shaping and forming equipment such as brakes, shears, and other metal straightening or bending machines.
  • Proficiency in grinding and finishing welds and metal surfaces to meet quality and appearance standards.
  • Reliability in reporting to work regularly, on time, and prepared to perform all assigned tasks.
Additional Skills & Qualifications
  • Experience working in a weld shop environment with exposure to structural welding and fabrication projects.
  • Familiarity with process procedures and quality standards related to welding and metal fabrication.
  • Attention to detail and accuracy when reading blueprints and performing layout and fitting tasks.
  • Strong focus on safety practices when operating welding, cutting, and metal shaping equipment.
  • Ability to work independently and as part of a team in a production or fabrication setting.
  • Good manual dexterity and hand-eye coordination for precise welding and grinding operations.

Pay and Benefits

The pay range for this position is $20.00 - $29.00/hr.
