A privately held New York City real estate investment and management company is looking to add a Property Accountant to its accounting team. This is a fully onsite role based in Manhattan, supporting a portfolio of commercial and multifamily assets. The Property Accountant will be responsible for day-to-day accounting, month-end close, and financial reporting for multiple real estate entities. The ideal candidate has a strong background in property accounting, is comfortable working in a fast-paced environment, and has hands-on experience with Yardi.
Compensation & Schedule:
Salary: $90,000–$100,000 base
Location: New York City (onsite, 5 days per week)
Schedule: Full-time, standard business hours
Responsibilities:
Property Accounting & Month-End Close
Manage full-cycle accounting for a portfolio of commercial and multifamily properties.
Prepare monthly financial statements and supporting schedules.
Post journal entries, accruals, and adjustments; reconcile general ledger and bank accounts.
Maintain accurate records for operating, reserve, and security deposit accounts.
Track capital expenditures and construction-related accounting activity.
Lease & Tenant Accounting
Review lease information and ensure accurate rent rolls and tenant billing.
Record rental income, escalations, percentage rent, and lease-related adjustments.
Manage accounts receivable, delinquency tracking, and tenant ledgers.
Prepare and reconcile CAM/operating expense recoveries.
Reporting & Analysis
Assist with annual budgeting and monthly variance analysis.
Prepare reporting packages for ownership, asset management, and lenders.
Support cash flow forecasting and ad hoc financial analysis.
Compliance & Audit Support
Ensure accounting practices comply with GAAP and internal policies.
Assist with year-end audits and coordinate with external auditors.
Support lender reporting and covenant compliance requirements.
Required Qualifications:
5+ years of property accounting experience required, with direct exposure to commercial and/or multifamily real estate.
Bachelor’s degree in Accounting, Finance, or a related field preferred.
Strong understanding of accrual accounting and property-level financial reporting.
Proficiency in Yardi is required.
Advanced Excel skills and experience managing multiple entities or properties.
Knowledge of lease structures (NNN, gross, modified gross) and CAM reconciliations strongly preferred.
